Friday = Muskmelon Day.
We woke to a sky of stormy pink.
The best thing about Hopper and Simon sleeping outside are the early morning views.
Muskmelon Bay at Guana Island is a wild place. We can never be quite sure what it’s going to throw at us, but it’s often a combination of storms, rainbows, wind, and wildlife. This morning’s swim brought us a little of all of that. The cliffs here are majestic, and with nothing between us and the Atlantic Ocean, it’s a place that makes you feel small. Simon spied an octopus and his neighbors the cranky spiny lobsters. Yafa swam across the whole bay. Some of us lingered around the rocks and the surprise forest of elkhorn coral.
We spent the whole day here, napping and reading and jumping in the water when we felt like it. Simon tweaked some guests’ strokes. I gave Melinda a SUP lesson and she took right to it.
Heather does an underwater photo session with each guest every trip. It’s an incredible amount of work, both during and the editing after, and the results are always fabulous. While she did that, we did what we do: swim.
Cocktails! I made a pineapple vodka drink, bourbon and lime, seltzer and vodka, and Simon made gin and tonics for the crew. Something cheesy and yummy got passed around. Dinner was shrimp over couscous. Wine.
Slide Show! This is a busy day for Heather, with the photo session and then a slide show to assemble. Lots of ooohs and awwwwwws and maybe even a few happy tears.
The crew stayed up too late drinking Stone and Boulder cocktails (ginger wine, rum, lime, nutmeg). We’ll say goodbye to our guests early tomorrow and re-stock this tub.
This group has been a blast to work with, and they enjoyed some great weather and swimming conditions this week. One of the great things about guests who return again and again to be with us is that they know we will take them as they come, and that our goal is to send them home better. Judging by the hugs we received and the comments we heard as our six ladies wandered off to bed, I think they feel they got what they came for, and maybe more. It’s the best note to end on.
Another week ahead!
